Indian furniture has a warm rustic charm that is at home in a variety of settings and it offers great value for money. Recently there have been some modern variations arriving from India, with many new and more contemporary designs incorporated in this type of furniture. It is made mainly from Sheesham, a very durable and dense hardwood which has a beautiful grain with many colour variations. Nearly all Indian furniture is hand made and any slight imperfections that are present are regarded as part of the characteristics of this type of furniture. Some of the furniture has complimenting hand forged iron work which is known as Jali. The furniture from India is easy to care for and any knocks or scrapes whilst adding to the character can usually be covered easily with a light coat of wax. |
